Coach
Profiles
All coaches and assistants at Blacburn Calisthenics hold a level One
coaching accreditation which includes a current First Aid certificate
and Police Check.
Carol
Carol was born into
Blackburn Calisthenics and started at the age of 3.
She began her coaching career as an Inter assisting in the
younger
sections and then taking over as the coach of the Intermediates in
1983. She then went on to coach the Seniors once she retired as a pupil
in 1988. She still remains both the Inter and Senior coach
today only
taking a short break in 1990 when she travelled through Europe for 6
months. She then went on to coach the Intermediate State Team
in 1993
and the Senior State Team in 1996 winning both National Aggregates.
During 1993 she also won the aggregate for both the Inters
and Seniors
in Division 1 at Ballarat. She has also coached many solo
girls and
her greatest achievements are coaching Emma and Emily to be part of the
Most Graceful Calisthenic Girl in Ballarat in 2003 and 2004
respectively.
Robyn
Robyn started at Blackburn at the age of 2. She
retired as a pupil in 1995 due to the birth of the first of three sons.
Robyn started her coaching by assissting with the Subbies when she was
around 12 and later as
assisstant to the Juniors. She has been senior coach of the Juniors for
the past 25 years. Robyn was also the assisitant coach to Carol for the
winning Intermediate State Team in 1993.
Sue
Sue began Calisthenics at the
age of 4 and competed
until the age of 26 when she retired to have a family. Through
her years she competed in Graceful Girl solos and was part of the
Victorian State Team as a Senior in 1999 and 2000. Sue began
to
assist with the Tinies when she was 12. By the age of 16 she was
coaching the Tinies and at 17 took over as the coach of the Sub-Juniors
with the guidance of her mother, Minna. Sue has now taught the
Tinies and Sub-Juniors for over 20 years. Her most memorable
and proud coaching moment was at Ballarat in 2003 when the Blackburn
Sub-Juniors competed in Championship and were awarded first place for
Aestheics and Song.
Christie
Christie began
calisthenics at the age of 8 at a small club, Rondelle, where she was
an assistant coach from the age of 10. She first
started calisthenics to assist with her gymnastics but it quickly took
over as her sport of choice. As an Inter at Rondelle they
progressed from division 9 to division 5 in 3 years and in her final
year they went to Ballarat which was a first for the Club and sadly
also the year Rondelle closed.
Christie then came across to Blackburn Seniors where she
competed
until retiring at the end of 2005. In 1999 Christie began
assiting with the Tots and 2008 will be her 10th year as
coach and/or assistant for Tots and Tinies at Blackburn.
Christie says "Coaching such
a young team is both a delight and a challenge, helping them develop
good motor skills and also a love for calisthenics to last a lifetime."
Shelley
Shelley commenced
her calisthenics at Claremont at
the age of 10. When the club closed in 1985 Shelley moved to
Blackburn as an Inter and then moved onto the Seniors before retiring
to have children at the end of 2001. On retirement from competing Shelley
joined Carol to assist the Seniors in 2002 and still continues in this
role today. Within the many years Shelley performed she was
involved in both Physical and Graceful solos and represented Victoria
in the Senior State Team seven times. Shelley was awarded the
'Outstanding Achiever' award for the club in 1997 and represented
Victoria for her Graceful Girl Solo in Canberra in 1991.
Bronwyn
Bronwyn started as a pupil with
Blackburn Calisthenics
at the age of 4 progressing through the Tinies, Sub-Junior and Junior
sections before moving to Regent where she competed until she retired
in 1995. Bronwyn competed in Graceful solos from the age of 10 and was
selected to compete in the Most Graceful Calisthenic Girl competition
in Ballarat 7 times. She began her coaching career
coaching solo's in
1987 - and has coached solo competitors nearly every year since.
Bronwyn joined the Blackburn Coaching Team in 1990 working
with
the Sub-Juniors and added the Intermediates in 2000. She
remains
with both of these sections today. In 1997, Bronwyn was also
the
assistant coach of the Regent Intermediates.
Karen
Karen began calisthenics at the
age of 9 when she was
brought along to Blackburn Juniors by a friend. She immediately
displayed talent and her love of Calisthenics took her right through to
Seniors where she competed unitil retiring to have children in 2005.
In 2000 Karen joined Robyn to assist with the Juniors and
continues to do so today. During Karen's years as a
competitior
she was involved in solo's, competed in the Victorian State Team in
1993 & 1994 as an Inter and was successful in attaining her Bronze Medal
through the Levels syllabus. In 1999 Karen was the recipient
of
Blackburn's 'Outstanding Achiever' award for her consistent hard work
and commitment to the club. Emily
Emily began calisthenics at the
age of 7 at Blackburn as a Sub-Junior. She has continued through to
Seniors and last year received her 15 years service medal.
In 2001 Emily was the recipient
of
Blackburn's 'Outstanding Achiever' award for her quiet achievement and
consistent hard work. Emily has competed in many Graceful solos
since Juniors and was selected to compete in the Ballarat Most Graceful
girl competition in 2004. She has also represented Victoria at
the National competiitons as a Senior. We welcome Emily to
the Junior coaching team for 2010.
Megan
Megan began Calisthenics at the age of 3 at Fernleigh.
She moved to Blackburn with her sisters in 1995 and worked
through to Seniors. Megan has competed in Graceful and Physical
solos and has represented Victoria in the National competition 7
times. She has also been selected to compete in the
Ballarat Most Gracefull Calisthenic girl competition 4 times.
In 2005 Megan was awarded the
clubs 'Outstanding Achiever' award for her
outstanding success and achievements in Calisthenics. Megan began as an assistant coach in the Sub-Juniors in
2004 - 2008. In 2009 Megan assisted with the Inters before taking a job on a cruise ship in August '09'.
Megan has had an exciting time traveling and the Inters look forward to her return in April this year.
Leanne
Leanne commenced calisthenics as a Tinie in 1979
with Eltham Calisthenics College and continued competing until 1993. In 1985 she began to assist with the Sub
Juniors at Eltham Calisthenics College and continued assisting until leaving in
1992. Leanne moved to Blackburn in 1993 and competed with Blackburn’s Seniors for a few years in
between injuries and having children. In
1994 she started assisting Sue with the Tinies and within a couple of years
took over teaching the Tinies second teams and has been doing so ever since. Leanne says (her)"biggest enjoyment in teaching has been
to help young girls each year, go from not wanting to leave their parents side,
to have the confidence and ability to shine on stage and to teach them the love
of calisthenics which I have had for the past 28 years."
Natasha
Natasha was introduced to
Calisthenics through a friend when she was 6 and joined the Blackburn
Tinies.
She
is now part of the Senior group and will be participating for her 18th
year in 2010. Natasha began assisting with the Tots in 2003 and then
joined the Tinies coaching team in 2006. In 2007 Natasha was
the
recipient of Blackburn's 'Outstanding Achiever' award for her
commitment and dedication to the club.
